AI search optimization in Brighton Beach.

Ask in English, ask in Russian: different answers. When a patient asks an AI assistant for an eye doctor in Brighton Beach, the practices it names depend on the language of the question. This page is what four assistants said in early October 2026, in both languages, and what a Brighton Beach practice can do about it.

What this is

Signal does AI search optimization and local SEO for independent practices in Brighton Beach: the work of being the practice ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini or Claude names when a patient here asks who to see, in English or in Russian. It’s the method on AI search optimization, applied to one neighbourhood and two languages.

What four AI engines said about Brighton Beach, 2–4 October 2026

Between 2 and 4 October 2026, Signal asked ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini and Claude who the best optometrist, physical therapist and chiropractor in Brighton Beach is, first in English and then in Russian. Across the 12 English answers they named 34 different practices and practitioners, and every answer named at least one.

Only 6 of the 34 were named by more than one engine. For optometry, one practice was named by three engines and no other by more than one. For physical therapy, one practice was named by three engines and two more by two. For chiropractors, one practitioner was named by three engines and one by two.

English questions, asked 2–4 Oct 2026: ChatGPT, Gemini and Claude on 2 Oct, Perplexity on 4 Oct. Counts only; Signal doesn’t publish the names. Not a ranking.

Not every name was in Brighton Beach. Four of the 34 were placed by an engine itself outside Brighton Beach or on its border: in Sheepshead Bay, or half a mile to a mile away. For chiropractors, ChatGPT, Perplexity and Gemini each led with a practitioner they placed outside Brighton Beach or on its border.

The engines read different things to get there. Zocdoc was among the sources behind 11 of the 12 English answers, and practices’ own websites behind 8. 14 of the 20 sources Gemini cited were practice websites. ChatGPT read 95 sources for its three answers, and 36 of them were Reddit threads. 18 of the 30 pages Claude read were Yelp search results. None of the 12 English answers drew on a Russian-language source.

ChatGPT, Gemini and Claude were asked on 2 October 2026 and Perplexity on 4 October 2026, each question once per engine and per language, through the provider’s API, with web search on and the searcher placed in Brighton Beach. API answers approximate what a person sees in the apps; they aren’t identical. Perplexity’s API answered with an OpenAI model on Perplexity’s own search. Signal counted the practices named in each answer by hand; a practitioner named with a practice counts as the practice. The Russian questions were written as a Russian speaker would ask them, not translated word for word: «окулист» covers both optometrists and ophthalmologists, and «физиотерапевт» doesn’t map exactly onto a US physical therapist. This is a sample from those days, not a ranking, and Signal doesn’t publish the names. The same questions are asked again each month.

The same questions in Russian

Asked the same three things in Russian, all four engines answered in Russian and named 26 practices and practitioners. Only 9 of the 26 had also been named in English; 17 were named only in Russian. Claude’s English and Russian answers had no name in common, for any of the three questions.

Asked 2–4 Oct 2026, once per engine per language. Counts only. Not a ranking.

The word decides the profession. Asked in Russian for an eye doctor, all four engines named an ophthalmologist first; asked in English for an optometrist, all four named an optometrist first. The Russian word, «окулист», covers both. A Russian-speaking patient’s question puts an optometry practice up against ophthalmologists, unless its pages say, in Russian, what an optometrist does.

Different sources. Russian-language sources were behind 5 of the 12 Russian answers and none of the English ones. 7 of the 10 sources Claude read for its Russian optometry answer were Russian-language business listings. Gemini went the other way: its logged searches for all three Russian questions were in English, and it answered in Russian.

So a practice that sees Russian-speaking patients has two sets of places to be right in: the English directories and its own site, and the Russian-language listings and pages some assistants read when asked in Russian. The Russian findings are set out in full, in Russian, on the Russian page.

Brighton Beach Avenue, and how patients describe where you are

Brighton Beach Avenue is the neighbourhood’s main commercial street, and it runs under the elevated BMT Brighton Line. Brighton Beach station stands over the avenue between Brighton 5th and Brighton 7th Streets, served by the Q at all times and by the B on weekdays; Ocean Parkway station, at the western end, by the Q. The neighbourhood is usually drawn from Ocean Parkway to Corbin Place, and from the Belt Parkway to the ocean.

The western edge is where the answers slipped. The chiropractors the short-answer engines led with were, by the engines’ own description, half a mile out or on the border, around Ocean Parkway and in Sheepshead Bay. A practice that is in Brighton Beach should say so in text, with the cross street; one on the edge should say which side it’s on.

Patients type a street or a stop, not a ZIP code. The prompts below are illustrations of that kind of question, not measured search data:

The named work near Brighton Beach

Brooklyn BJJ Lessons — martial arts, Brighton Beach Avenue. Brooklyn BJJ Lessons is Signal’s founder’s own private-lessons business, taught on Brighton Beach Avenue; Signal built and runs its site, which is why it is listed as a client. It’s a one-page booking site with Person and LocalBusiness markup and a verified Business Profile. ChatGPT first cited it 41 days after launch. It isn’t a health-care practice, and most of its logged prompts are Brooklyn-wide, not about Brighton Beach.

Asked whether there is a Brazilian jiu-jitsu private instructor near Brighton Beach, ChatGPT, Perplexity and Gemini named Brooklyn BJJ Lessons and cited its site; Claude did not name it. Asked for a jiu-jitsu coach around Sheepshead Bay or Coney Island, none of the four engines named it. The evidence ledger is the record.

Vision Palace Optical — optometry, Avenue U. An optometry practice on Avenue U, a short way north of Brighton Beach, and a Signal client. It’s named here as a client only; this page reports no results for it.

For optometrists, physical therapists and chiropractors in Brighton Beach

Optometry. Asked in English, the engines named 14 practices and optometrists, and only one was named by more than one engine. Asked in Russian, they named 7, and all four led with an ophthalmologist. An optometry practice with Russian-speaking patients needs a Russian page that says what an optometrist is, what the exam covers, when it refers to an ophthalmologist, and which plans it takes. More on AI search optimization for optometrists.

Physical therapy. 11 names in English, three of them named by more than one engine. In Russian, «физиотерапевт» often means a physician who prescribes physiotherapy, yet the engines answered with physical therapy clinics. A Brighton Beach practice’s pages need to say where it is and what it takes: direct access, no-fault and workers’ comp, stated from New York’s rules. More on AI search optimization for physical therapists.

Chiropractic. 9 names in English, and three engines led with practitioners they placed outside the neighbourhood or on its border. In Russian, 11 names, 9 of them not named in English at all. The facts that decide whether you fit a patient (where you are, what you treat within scope, insurance and no-fault, hours) have to be on your own pages, written within New York’s advertising rules. Questions Brighton Beach practices ask

Why don’t you name the practices the AI engines listed?
Because a few days’ answers aren’t a ranking, and this page isn’t about other practices. The counts, sources and dates are what’s useful: they show how much the answers move between assistants, and between languages.
Do you write in Russian?
Yes. Signal’s founder reads and writes Russian, and the Russian page about Brighton Beach is written in Russian, not machine-translated. A practice’s Russian pages are written the same way.
Is Brooklyn BJJ Lessons a Signal client?
It’s the founder’s own business. Brooklyn BJJ Lessons is Signal’s founder’s own private-lessons business, taught on Brighton Beach Avenue; Signal built and runs its site, which is why it is listed as a client. It’s martial arts, not health care, and it’s on this page because it’s the work closest to Brighton Beach Avenue.
Will the results on this page change?
Yes. The same three questions are asked again every month, word for word, in English and in Russian. New rows are added with their dates; the October 2026 baseline stays.
Can you guarantee ChatGPT will recommend us?
No, and be careful of anyone who says they can. Signal builds the pages an assistant needs in order to name you, then records what the assistants actually return, by prompt and by date, on the public evidence ledger, including the prompts where you aren’t named. You see the same rows I do.
What’s the difference between AI search optimization, AI SEO, GEO and local SEO?
AI search optimization, AI SEO and GEO (generative engine optimization) are three names for the same work: making a business something AI assistants can find, trust and quote. Local SEO is the older discipline of showing up in Google’s local results and map listings. For a practice the two overlap heavily, because both depend on the same facts stated the same way everywhere. There’s a longer explanation on the What is GEO? page.
