AI search optimization in Sheepshead Bay.
When a patient asks an AI assistant for a physical therapist, a chiropractor or an eye doctor in Sheepshead Bay, the four big assistants don’t give the same answer. Physical therapy is where they met. This page is what four assistants said in early October 2026, and what a Sheepshead Bay practice can do about it.

What this is
Signal does AI search optimization and local SEO for independent practices in Sheepshead Bay: the work of being the practice ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini or Claude names when a patient here asks who to see. It’s the method on AI search optimization, applied to one neighbourhood.
What four AI engines said about Sheepshead Bay, 2–4 October 2026
Between 2 and 4 October 2026, Signal asked ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini and Claude who the best optometrist, physical therapist and chiropractor in Sheepshead Bay is. Across the 12 answers they named 34 different practices and practitioners, and every answer named at least one.
Only 6 of the 34 were named by more than one engine. For optometry, three engines named the same practice, and no other optometrist was named by more than one. For physical therapy, two practices were each named by three engines. For chiropractors, one practice was named by three engines and two more were named by two.
| The question | Practices named | Named by 2+ engines | Most engines naming one practice |
|---|---|---|---|
| Who’s the best optometrist in Sheepshead Bay, Brooklyn? | 12 | 1 | 3 of 4 |
| Who’s the best physical therapist in Sheepshead Bay, Brooklyn? | 10 | 2 | 3 of 4 |
| Who’s the best chiropractor in Sheepshead Bay, Brooklyn? | 12 | 3 | 3 of 4 |
| All three | 34 | 6 | — |
In Crown Heights the same three questions produced 24 names, and 5 were shared between engines; in Sheepshead Bay, 34 names and 6 shared.
Not every name was in Sheepshead Bay. Three of the 34 were placed by an engine itself outside Sheepshead Bay or on its border with Brighton Beach or Homecrest.
The engines read different things to get there. Zocdoc was among the sources behind 11 of the 12 answers, and practices’ own websites behind 10. 22 of the 29 sources Gemini cited were practice websites. ChatGPT read 104 sources for its three answers, and 36 of them were Reddit threads. 15 of the 29 pages Claude read were Yelp search results.
ChatGPT, Gemini and Claude were asked on 2 October 2026 and Perplexity on 4 October 2026, each question once per engine, through the provider’s API, with web search on and the searcher placed in Sheepshead Bay. API answers approximate what a person sees in the apps; they aren’t identical. Perplexity’s API answered with an OpenAI model on Perplexity’s own search. Signal counted the practices named in each answer by hand; a practitioner named with a practice counts as the practice, and two engines naming the same person count once only when they give the same full name and street address. This is a sample from those days, not a ranking, and Signal doesn’t publish the names. The same questions are asked again each month.
Why the answers differ, and what a practice can change
Each assistant went somewhere different. ChatGPT leaned on Reddit threads, Claude on Yelp and Zocdoc listing pages, Gemini on practices’ own websites. Two short-answer engines gave one or two names each; the other two gave lists. None of that is under a practice’s control.
What is under its control is what those sources say. A practice’s own pages, its Business Profile and its Zocdoc, Yelp and Healthgrades listings are where an assistant finds the neighbourhood, the cross streets, the hours, the insurance and what’s treated. When those facts are stated plainly, and the same way everywhere, an assistant has something it can repeat. When they’re missing or contradict each other, it names someone else.
Sheepshead Bay’s streets, and how patients describe where you are
Emmons Avenue is the waterfront road, with the piers and the boats; Sheepshead Bay Road is the other main street, with the station at East 16th Street, served by the Q at all times and the B on weekdays. Avenue U, Ocean Avenue and Nostrand Avenue are the other through streets. The neighbourhood is usually drawn from Ocean Parkway to Nostrand and Gerritsen Avenues, and from Kings Highway to the water.
The edges are where the answers slipped. The three names placed outside the neighbourhood sat, by the engines’ own description, a bit outside it or on its border with Brighton Beach or Homecrest. A practice that is in Sheepshead Bay should say so in text, with the cross street; one near the edge should say which side it’s on.
Patients type a street or a stop, not a ZIP code. The prompts below are illustrations of that kind of question, not measured search data:
| The prompt | What the assistant has to find | Where it goes |
|---|---|---|
| physical therapist near the Sheepshead Bay stop | The nearest station and cross streets | Contact page and footer, in text; the address in LocalBusiness markup (physical therapists) |
| chiropractor on Emmons Ave open Saturday | The street, and Saturday hours | openingHoursSpecification on the site, matched by the Business Profile hours (chiropractors) |
| physical therapist in Sheepshead Bay, not Brighton Beach | Which neighbourhood the practice is in, and which side of the border | The location page, in words |
The named work in and near Sheepshead Bay
Vision Palace Optical — optometry, Avenue U. An optometry practice on Avenue U in Sheepshead Bay, and a Signal client. It’s named here as a client only; this page reports no results for it.
Brooklyn BJJ Lessons — martial arts, Brighton Beach Avenue. Brooklyn BJJ Lessons is Signal’s founder’s own private-lessons business, taught on Brighton Beach Avenue; Signal built and runs its site, which is why it is listed as a client. It’s in the neighbouring Brighton Beach, not Sheepshead Bay, and it isn’t a health-care practice. ChatGPT first cited it 41 days after launch.
Its one check that names Sheepshead Bay is a miss, and it sits next to the hit from Brighton Beach:
| Checked | Engine | Prompt | Result |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2–4 Oct 2026 | ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Claude | I’m looking for a jiu-jitsu coach around Sheepshead Bay or Coney Island. Any recommendations? | Not named by any of the four |
| 2 Oct 2026 | ChatGPT | Is there a Brazilian jiu-jitsu private instructor near Brighton Beach? | Named first of two; brooklynbjjlessons.com cited |
| 4 Oct 2026 | Perplexity | Is there a Brazilian jiu-jitsu private instructor near Brighton Beach? | Named, the only instructor named; site cited |
| 2 Oct 2026 | Gemini | Is there a Brazilian jiu-jitsu private instructor near Brighton Beach? | Named first, under “Right in Brighton Beach”; site cited |
| 2 Oct 2026 | Claude | Is there a Brazilian jiu-jitsu private instructor near Brighton Beach? | Not named |
Asked for a jiu-jitsu coach around Sheepshead Bay or Coney Island, none of the four engines named it. Asked whether there is a Brazilian jiu-jitsu private instructor near Brighton Beach, ChatGPT, Perplexity and Gemini named Brooklyn BJJ Lessons and cited its site; Claude did not name it. One check each proves little, but being named near Brighton Beach didn’t carry over to the neighbourhood next door. The evidence ledger is the record.
For physical therapists, chiropractors and optometrists in Sheepshead Bay
Physical therapy. 10 names, and it was the only question where two different practices were each named by three of the four engines. A Sheepshead Bay practice’s pages need to say where it is and what it takes: direct access, no-fault and workers’ comp, stated from New York’s rules. More on AI search optimization for physical therapists.
Chiropractic. 12 names; one practice named by three engines and two more by two. The facts that decide whether you fit a patient (where you are, what you treat within scope, insurance and no-fault, hours) have to be on your own pages, written within New York’s advertising rules. More on AI search optimization for chiropractors.
Optometry. 12 names; three engines named the same practice, and no other optometrist was named by more than one. More on AI search optimization for optometrists.

Questions Sheepshead Bay practices ask
- Why don’t you name the practices the AI engines listed?
- Because a few days’ answers aren’t a ranking, and this page isn’t about other practices. The counts, sources and dates are what’s useful: they show how much the answers move between assistants.
- Do you have a client in Sheepshead Bay?
- Yes. Vision Palace Optical, an optometry practice on Avenue U, is a Signal client. It’s named here as a client only; this page reports no results for it. The nearest other named work is Brooklyn BJJ Lessons, the founder’s own business, in neighbouring Brighton Beach.
- Will the results on this page change?
- Yes. The same three questions are asked again every month, word for word. New rows are added with their dates; the October 2026 baseline stays.
- Can you guarantee ChatGPT will recommend us?
- No, and be careful of anyone who says they can. Signal builds the pages an assistant needs in order to name you, then records what the assistants actually return, by prompt and by date, on the public evidence ledger, including the prompts where you aren’t named. You see the same rows I do.
- What’s the difference between AI search optimization, AI SEO, GEO and local SEO?
- AI search optimization, AI SEO and GEO (generative engine optimization) are three names for the same work: making a business something AI assistants can find, trust and quote. Local SEO is the older discipline of showing up in Google’s local results and map listings. For a practice the two overlap heavily, because both depend on the same facts stated the same way everywhere. There’s a longer explanation on the What is GEO? page.
